Malaysia Astor viewers have probably noticed an Astro Max advertisement where a Chinese housewife who’s busy with her work and have some kids that always switch her TV channel; and then her husband bought her an Astro Max so that she can view her favorite program when she finish her jobs and when the kids are probably asleep.

I understand Astro is trying to give some touching message, which I felt to notice; I just think that the characters are pathetic… indecisive mum, ball-less dad (and husband) and spoilt kids.

A friend told me that if she can meet Taiwan heartthrob Jerry Yan in person when he comes to Malaysia next week… that will make it the best day for her in 2006.

It’s quite funny to hear a 27-year-old saying that meeting a superstar will make it a great day, my immediate thinking was that my friend probably needs a life; but before I teased her, a thought flashed through my mind… what have I accomplished this year?

The UMNO General Assembly 2006 has ended. As always some leaders are vowing with life and blood to protect Malay interest… can’t blame them, it’s a Malay congress after all, they need to show their aggressiveness towards the others to fulfill their own agenda; that’s politic.

It has been unofficially confirmed that there will be no deadline for NEP. Good to hear that, honestly. At least we can be sure of UMNO’s intention to utilize on the racial biased economic policy until they can get what they want, so call balanced wealth between races in the country.

Was in a Chinese restaurant last weekend and overheard a mother talking broken English to her kids. It’s not just some Manglish or grammatical errors, her English was simply horrific.

When tennis star Michael Chang won the French Open in 1989, he was asked of his feelings for being the first Chinese to do so; he replied with something like “I am just an American.”

I just blogged a few days back referring to the Petronas Raya commercial, thinking that young Malaysians these days don’t know how to handle old folks (with Alzheimer in particular).

UMNO youth leaders have just proven me right in some sense, with their comments and criticism that retaliates on Dr Mahathir attacks on Prime Minister Abdullah Badawi.

Many Malaysians have probably seen the Petronas Raya advertisement on TV (watch it on YouTube), where a couple are trying to take care of their old man that’s having alzheimer.

I am not sure what the ad want to present in the end, I wonder if it indicates that the couple was doing not enough, that we have to be more filial and learn to forgive.. whatever, the ad sure raise lots of thinking.

I wonder if Malaysian Chinese are using the wrong translation for Diwali or Deepavali for all these years? The direct translation for Deepavali in Chinese means “Festival of Demon Killing.”

The interpretation is not entirely wrong, as Diwali is the celebration of light following the killing of demons by the Hindu gods. However I felt that we should have a better official terms in Chinese that show the true meaning for “Festival of Lights.”

Festival of Demon Killing or Festival or Lights, whatever.. to all friends and readers that are celebrating the festival, Happy Deepavali.
