“Kalau tidak suka, jangan tengok Astro.” That is the only recommendation that our minister Mr. Lim Keng Yaik could give when asked about the price hike of Astro.
I am just wondering if there is at least another reputable competitor for paid TV service in Malaysia, would Astro think twice before increasing their price?
There is nothing wrong with Lim’s statement, but I do wish that a person of his status could have some brighter ideas.
Frankly I don’t mind paying better price for equivalent quality, but I am getting more frustrated with Astro month by month… there are wasting money paying for rubbish channels while putting the cost on consumers, their services sucks during rainfall, and there are more and more commercial break… I felt like I am paying money to watch advertisement everyday.
The irony thing is, despite all those dissatisfaction… it’s very likely that I will continue to subscribe to Astro, just like most of the other subscribers. Do we really have much choices? (Oh we do… Jangan Tengok Astro.)

we hav eno choice .. but hey what happen to this another paid TV that came in sometime mid last year???

That paid TV is affiliated with Vincent Tan, the boss of Berjaya Group if not mistaken… I guess he runs out of cash to compete with Astro.

Have anyone try installing a bigger satellite dish - [if bandaraya don't kachau u].
remember a town in Johor, Raub i think ?. houses have very tall antennae and manage to receive singaporean programs.
so may be a top range dish will get u some channels from neighbouring countries. how’s that!!! then u can kick Astro where it hurts…ha ha

RM… not sure how it works; it’s a matter of time before the Bandaraya interfere with the installation.

They are the only service provider, monopoly-ing the industry. They can just do what they want. Oh well, everyone is stuck with Astro still.

Jason… ya, pathetic isn’t it.
May 10th, 2007 at 5:54 pm

May 10th, 2007 at 6:58 pm

Some places in Sarawak, they have huge sattelite dish which the direction can be adjusted using remote …and nobody kacau … ’sooo..lucky’.. (in the tune of vios advert..)
May 11th, 2007 at 12:19 pm
vyn… seriously? Soooo lucky!
May 12th, 2007 at 12:20 pm
I can’t understand the mentality of the people who are behind this kind of price increasing. Kalau MAHAL, siapa suruh tengok?
May 18th, 2007 at 2:50 pm
actually astro is running a monopoly business
Did you notice there is FineTV, MiTV like khairul said, their channel suck! U know why?
AstroGuy: You sell them your channel I will pull it out of my channel list. I have bla bla XXX million viewers.
Disney/ESPN/Others: OH oh, soli ah, I dun sell to them, you are my god, you are my boss!
astro basicall sign up with all good channel and pile in their contract storage cabinet. This is to ensure that they monopoly.
If there is a same channels as astro with cable tv, I will be the first to move, plus u can get cable internet with that. No raining effect too.
May 18th, 2007 at 4:07 pm
You got a point Wahlau… if they signed exclusive deals with all the channels, it would literally kill off other competitors. This might be one of the reason Astro are buying all those rubbish channels recently… so that the competitors are left with nothing to deal with.
Astro is building on very poor customer loyalty. If there is a worthy competitor Astro could be losing a quarter of their customers easily… question is, when is it going to happen? Or will it ever going to happen?

Astro is here to stay.Astro has sattelite pay tv license until 2017.By that time, already cover 80% of pay tv market in M’sia.Monthly fees will be cheaper due to economies of scale. No company can fight it by 2017.

why there is no other company like astro in our country??? i mean company from outside malaysia?
