Malaysians must be pretty familiar with a recent Digi advertisement… Fu-yoh. Honestly, what is the meaning of Fu-yoh? Is it a common used term among youngsters nowadays?
Can’t seem to find much info about the word online. I believe it’s a kind of flower in Japan, or is in fact a Japanese word… but I doubt Digi is using a Japanese word.
My friend told me that the meaning of Fu-yoh is derive from Chinese word which means wealth… it sounds right but I doubt it’s the case as well.
Some forumers at Lowyat.net gave a simpler explanation that it is just a word of acclamation on something surprise… like “Fuyoh, so cheap!” Just like OMG etc. perhaps; sounds more logical.
Call me dirty minded, but I can’t stop thinking that Fu-yoh is a disguise of “Fu*k You”… it sounds so similar for me.
Even if Fu-yoh does mean to show surprise blah blah… there must have a recent origin for people to start using that word, and I suspect that the word is derive from the famous F word instead.
I am not a saint; I do spit some foul languages some time… so what the meaning of Fu-yoh doesn’t concern me too much in the end. Just thought that if my hypothesis is right… it must be interesting to have some TV commercials farking us everyday.

i used digi fu-yoh prepaid plan..huhu..
btw, i’m not sure where that word was derived from but during my primary school days, i heard that when people were shocked of something..and indeed i still use that word till today…
n for me, i don’t think that that word has any connection with f*** you or things like that…

i think it should be a chinese word which means “wealth”…
we may save more money by using the “fu-yoh” plan, consequently we wil become more wealthier

i used the word fuyoh throughout school and still use it! kind of like a stronger version of ‘wah’ …

Like tanya said, Fu-Yoh represents “WAHHH” with a twist to me. It’s like a slang or something? I’m not very good with Chinese, so I have no idea if there’s a connection with “wealth” or not. However, there’s definitely NO connection between Fu-Yoh and F**k You.

I’m a DiGi subscriber for I-dont-know-how-long, nothing much I could complain about their service, as it’s been serving me good (if not better) so far.
But I really cannot tahan lah these stupid advertisements! First it was that stupid, fat yellow man who definitely need a better suit (I’d suggest them to buy online from those costume shop. They have BETTER looking ones) and now this stupid Fu-Yoh! Fu-Yoh! thingy.

cindy… well, the yellow man is annoying, but I think their branding was doing pretty well. I like the ad during Chinese New Year (the fengshui one), made it laughed everytime… can’t understand why they want to push another sub-product that soon after spending millions (I assume) on the yellow man branding.
I think their next brand will be OK LAH! instead lol.

Well …. this is kinda 15 years back … during my high school days … my classmate and friends use “FU LA MAK” commonly. Maybe “FU YOH” has springboard from there …

If you ask me Fu-la-mak was derived from Du-la-mak, which was derived from Chinese words ‘F*** your mother’.

Hie everyone,
I was looking to get the Digi advertisement short clips, and their background songs whether it is in english or chinese and end up at this blog.
I knew the song origins from old classic song but i can’t remember the title at the moment, but Digi made it very attractive, to me at least.
But my main point here is to mention that, I knew “FU-YOH” back to primary school, and I am pretty sure the same word didn’t come from chinese word WEALTH. (correct me if wrong).
I came from NATIONAL school also known as Sekolah Kebangsaan lar, and there were only 3 chinese student in the whole primary school ( yes, I am from Kampung and Ulu, but who cares)
, that is why I am so sure it doesn’t derived from chinese word WEALTH.
Back then, FU-YOH really stand something like “WAH”, as mentioned as the comment above.It always spoken first before any other words come out from the mouth to further the conversation.
Usually “FU-YOH” are meant for something great, special, smart, and never for something not good. It always goes with surprises, but never for shocking issues.
Example for “FU-YOH” usage:
Ahmad: Guys, look at my brand new bike.
Gopi: FU-YOH, Ahmad, where you buy this bike ah? Sure powerful and fast man. Can show us ah?
Chong: FU-YOH, Beautiful lar. How much lar?
(”LAR” is very common in Malaysian/Singapore conversation, it is a slang, and derived from mostly Cantonese, and Mandarin)
I am not great in creating example, I hope whoever read this, will understand.
Another thing is, usually, “FU-YOH” will end up with word “TERER”, which I have no idea where it come from and from what language derived from.
“TERER” stand for great, powerful, smart with academics, and sports.
“FULAMAK” also another word we used back in primary school, secondary school , college , university and till know,
there are many more, which I cannot remember now, getting older.
