Malaysia disbanded the national hockey team that finished sixth in the Doha Asian Games and is planning to be replaced by a new squad of mostly national juniors. [NST]

It’s kinda funny that sports organizations in Malaysia always like to ‘build for the future’ and not thinking of anything that’s needed NOW.

Frankly I don’t think the Doha team was doing that bad, they missed the semi-finals by goal margin and performed decently. Is it logical to disband a team of experience players and bring in a team of juniors instead?

I feel that the best way for the players to improve is by competition; the seniors have to fight for their spots in the national team, while the juniors have to prove that they are good enough if they want to wear the national jersey.

The hockey team is not the only sport organizations in Malaysia that make ruthless changes. I can’t remember how many times the badminton team has disbanded the badminton pairs that were doing ok, so that they could paired with younger juniors to ‘build for the future’.

Same story applies to football team as well. Everytime they faired poorly the team was disbanded and replaced by younger footballers to ‘build for the future’. Guess what… everytime they are replacing weak teams with weaker teams, and the national teams are getting weaker and weaker and weaker.

Forget about the future if we can’t even do something properly NOW. It’s ok to build for the future but it must be done properly; what good will it be for the juniors to represent the country when they can’t even compete with the seniors fair and square for a national team spot?

someone highup has lost his brain or sleeping.

Malaysia sport will never be a force to be hormat with this kind of management.

Reallyman… if not mistaken they changed the coach as well.

The top management definitely know nothing about sports… I have a feeling that we will be doing far worst in the next Asian games.
