Malaysians in their mid 20s (or elder) might remember a popular Japanese drama in the late 80s about a Japanese girl and her volleyball story, with all those funny and flashy techniques.

The J-Drama is “Moero Attack,” not sure if it’s using the same title in Malaysia when it was showed last time; I remember the show was in translated in Malay.
Frankly I can’t recall much of the storyline or the face of the leading cast; but somehow I think of the TV series once in a while. Perhaps it’s the time when me and my 2 sister were doing the same thing, watching the TV, which didn’t happen too often because of the huge age gap and different of interest.
Back to Moero Attack, the drama was made much earlier before it was shown in Malaysia. The leading character was played by Araki Yumiko whom was around 20 years of age when the series was made; she’s around 46 by now.
The last public appearance Yumiko made should be an invitation from CCTV in 2004, where she was invited to visit China, where Moero Attack was quite a hit back then as well.
Some trivia… most of the actress were 150cm-160cm in heights, very much shorter than average volleyball players. When the drama was filmed, the net was actually lowered a couple of feets, and the volleyball court was smaller than standard size.

Oh!! I love this series so much! I still remember this series was played on RTM in 1989, when I was in Darjah 1.. But I missed watching the final episode, and I can’t remember why… I hope RTM will play this series again..
November 23rd, 2006 at 1:40 pm
wow salina… you actually remember which year it was. As said I can’t remember most of the stories; I think the ending was that the leading actress joined the Olympic team and flew to the Olympic…
Nah, don’t think RTM will play this series again, it’s too old and probably not attracting much interest compared to those Korean melodrama nowadays.
December 7th, 2006 at 3:52 pm
I still remember how popular this drama was. I also still remember some techniques that they used in their match. One of the popular technique was ‘Piring Terbang” “Summersault Berpusing” and some other more…Really miss this drama and hopefully RTM will play this drama again…
December 8th, 2006 at 11:33 am

Japanese love to make sport series… basketball, car racing, ice hockey and even ping-pong.
March 5th, 2007 at 9:05 pm
kalau ada stesen tv yang akan siarkan rancangan ni i jamin mesti ramai2 profesional seperti doktor.engineer atau i sendri scientist yang akan memberi sokongan..memang best this cerita.. i ingat lagi masa tue..huahuahua.. tv3 or any private tv station take advantage to siar this cerita.. mesti boleh kaut rating penonton paling ramai.
March 6th, 2007 at 1:29 am
aril… kena email kat stesen TV dan minta siaran semula… tapi jangan jangan disiarkan pada masa petang, nanti semua profesional sedang kerja… tiada orang nak tengok.
March 12th, 2007 at 3:29 pm
woi!aku minat giler citer ni!sapa ada lirik lagu dia r?
March 12th, 2007 at 5:08 pm
mandom… lirik Japanese ke? sorry tak tau… drama ni sudah lama, masa tengok masih budak kecil.
March 28th, 2007 at 6:29 pm
I’m Singaporean, and i loved Moero Attack. The Singaporean version sucked. a total rip off. and totally uninteresting.
March 28th, 2007 at 8:09 pm
Naz… it’s not easy to do a remake. Honestly the series gave good memories to a lot of us… but even if we have the chance to watch the original Japanese series again, it might not be as interesting as it used to be… we all grow more mature over the years, we might see things differently.
May 8th, 2007 at 10:55 pm
Any idea does it have vcd and dvd of this drama? i’m been looking for so long.
May 8th, 2007 at 11:33 pm

i remember watching a japanese drama when i was little. it was about a white guy married to a japanese girl and the cultural struggle he faces. one scene that i remembered until now was when he used the small japanese pillow that you use for your neck as “bantal peluk.” his japanese wife had to pry it away from him because she didn’t want her mother to see it. but after the wife left, he went back to use the pillow as “bantal peluk.”
does anybody remember that drama? or better yet the title of it. i’ve been trying to look for it for ages now.
March 15th, 2008 at 10:31 am

Cite ni mmg best, tak igt thn bila disiarkan tp masa tu I still budak lg. Kalo sape2 ada tjumpa dvd ke, boleh share dgn I
Yg I igt pasal cite ni:
1)Hero tu maknye dah mati dan mak dia jg player volleyball yg ada skill sommersault spike tu. tak silap, ending cite ni hero tu dpt mewarisi skill mak dia tuh.
2)Kalo setiap kali iklan, mesti ada tunjukkan gambar hero tu dengan kaki kat atas, kepala kat bwh
3)Ada satu team (kire mcm musuh ketatla) yg playernye adik-beradik kembar. dia pny spike mautnye “Tamparan berpusing” - bola tu akn jadi dua biji
July 23rd, 2008 at 11:41 am
aku pun mau tiru style dorang spike..
power wooo…cun ka nama heroin dia tu..
aku mau tanya lagi, ada tak sape2 yg ingat drama jepun, Ninja?
