The stylists and photographer for the Miss Astro Chinese International Pageant 2006 promotion photos should stamp their feet for making some poor publicity for themselves.
The girls look much prettier on TV than on this photo… the styling was too over and the angles of the photo made the pageants look stiff and odd.
What’s the point of using stylist and professional photographers if they are not making the contestants more charming?
I know many people are saying that the quality of this year contestants are so so… but fact is most girls will be happy to look like them, and most guys will be happy to have girlfriends like that.
I hate that Astro is using the SMS tactic again; I’m getting bored with all the programs that involve SMS… I will never understand people that send tons of SMS to support people they don’t know, guess I am getting old.
Btw, I think I already paid Astro enough with my monthly subscription, and did I ever mention the outrageous minutes of advertisement from Astro these days?
The idea of putting the pageants under the spotlight for a couple of weeks is nothing new as well. I would rather watch “America Next Top Model” instead.
I won’t be critical on the pageants’ performances, the girls are not perfect but at least they are daring to put themselves in front of thousands TV audience, showing their strength and weakness… brava for that.
In the end there can be only one winner to be crowned Miss Astro Chinese International Pageant 2006, hope that the girls have enjoy the contest, as the journey itself is often the most valuable experience irregardless of winning or losing.

gf and beauty pageant must hv different standard mah, the winner is representing malaysia for international competition woh, must be pretty one. but the girls not too bad lah, got 2 or 3 good quality one, better than so so lah.

jingz.. I personally know at least a few friends that send some dozens of SMS for 8TV’s Once In A Million, so the SMS competitions do make some people happy. It’s just that I (or we) cannot understand what’s the motivation behind for the SMS senders.
ken.. everyone is saying beauty and intelligent should co-exist blah blah, I do hope to see pageants that can meet the requirement, not just with a beautiful face and nice body figure.
As said we will have just one winner that’s going to represent Astro or Malaysia to the Chinese International Pageant, so a couple of good candidates should be enough.

True… some people will always have advantage when it comes to unlimited votes per person system, to a certain extend though.
It’s not just the ‘koms’ that are laughing, I bet Astro is getting a fair share of profits too.

I fell that using the sms tactic was not really fair, some of the peagent maybe may be really pretty or intelligence but because of the sms percentages the cant get in to the final. Aren’t it unfair???

yin.. I won’t say that it’s unfair, it’s part of the game, when the pageant joins the contest they are bound by the rules.
It’s true that good qualities might lose out to pure popularity, but as said, it’s part of the game.

So it’s Novel that’s crowned as Miss Astro Chinese International Pageant 2006 in the end.. congrats to her, my friend told me that she’s one of the top in SMS as well.
Which one is Mei Si? Can’t remember all the names.. seriously I think all of them are at least ok.

The photos are much better that the real person although it looks ugly. Just imagine those girls without make-up, you’ll get a great shock out of it. Only 2 out of 10 that has better quality, others are just as normal as below average Malaysian girls.
I believe you can easily get better looking girls in local clubs such as Zouk or The Loft. I wonder how they manage to get into final, and how the judges choose them….sigh…

Hi all…
I do agree, there are alot of pretty girls out there. I go Velvet some weekends and I do notice that. However, meet us in person first. Then you can decide who is good and who is not. It might suprised you. We’ve been through alot to be on stage that night. We did our best and its up to faith. When its meant to be, it will be.
Before joining this pageant, I’ve be criticising previous pageants too, just like everyone else. But now that Im involved in it, I felt this urge of putting wrong intepretation on them. Let us learned not to be in a position where we’ll be lacking depth of intellect or knowledge and concerned only with what is obvious. Well, who knows, one day when you meet us, your perception will change.
Mei Si has been through enough. She’s been there and done it. Give her some credits for having the courage to continue this journey in her life despites all the criticism. Ling has always been my champion and she knows that. She carry herself well and she definately scores in Q&A and that’s the biggest quality I admire abt her. Nonetheless, Novel did a great job that night. Perhaps, what the judges sees in her is her sincerity. We all know that she is a great girl. Hopefully she will make Malaysia proud next year. Novel darling, all the best to you. Keep the charm bracelet close to you.
About the sms voting system, we didn’t know that this year’s top 5 will be decided by sms until one month after we entered final 10. We are then bound to it and there is nothing we can do but just to abide to the rules. But we accept it as it is as it is part of the game.
Anyhow thanks for all the attention, good or bad. I know there’s only a very minimal percentage people who noticed me, but without you guys, we would be some empty and tiny pageants where nobody would pay attention as well…

Nicely said Sue Ann. Set aside the beauty and intelligent; the courage of taking part in the Astro contest and to be under the spotlight of thousands or millions is already something that’s worth admiring for.
Win or lose is not the most important in the end, it’s the journey and experience that the contestants gained during the whole event; whether it’s good or bad, it’s simply something unique that the critics or supporters won’t have a chance to taste about.
Again, wish all the pageants a happy life and great future ahead.

piggy… it’s not an uncommon practice for bars and discos. Lots of the time instead of paying anything, the pubs will give those pretty girls free drinks.
I am not sure about Zouk… they are popular enough to attract people without these stunt.
