I wonder how many Malaysian adults can remember the 5 principles of Rukunegara? I couldn’t, shame on me.
I don’t know how did I manage to forget Rukunegara, or Rukun Negara, our national ideology. Perhaps it just show that our Rukunegara are gradually being forgotten, or is it just my problem of having fading memories?
It’s probably wise for the government to announce at end of last year their plan for ‘reviving’ the Rukunegara, by making it compulsory at official functions.. it must be awkward if people like Pak Lah forgot about the Rukunegara.
I’ll do my bit for the mini-revival for Rukunegara..
From Malaysia Government’s official portal..
Malaysia’s national ideology, the Rukunegara was formulated with the purpose to serve as a guideline in the country’s nation-building efforts. The Rukunegara was proclaimed on August 31, 1970 by the Yang di-Pertuan Agong IV.
The pledge of the Rukunegara is as follows:
“Our Nation, Malaysia is dedicated to: Achieving a greater unity for all her people; maintaining a democratic way of life; creating a just society in which the wealth of the nation shall be equitably distributed; ensuring a liberal approach to her rich and diverse cultural tradition, and building a progressive society which shall be oriented to modern science and technology.
We, the people of Malaysia, pledge our united efforts to attain these ends, guided by these principles:
• Belief in God
• Loyalty to King and Country
• Upholding the Constitution
• Sovereignty of the Law, and
• Good Behaviour and Morality”
The 5 Rukun Negara principles in Bahasa Malaysia..
Kepercayaan kepada Tuhan
Kesetiaan kepada Raja dan Negara
Keluhuran Perlembagaan
Kedaulatan Undang-undang
Kesopanan dan Kesusilaan

Kean Jin.. the present situation in Malaysia is not really pleasant, politicians always have their own agenda, to boost their status with the expense of nation unity.
Set aside these idiots, there are still lots of Malaysians that are looking and working on holding the nation as a whole.. and although many of them might not remember the Rukunegara exactly (like me), they are building Malaysia according to the principles, unknowingly.

The Rukunegara pretty much sums up the daily value of our lifes.
Lots of decent Malaysians are implementing the values knowingly or unknowingly… like you said lots of people do believe in God, and most Malaysians are following the laws and living daily lifes with great dignity.
