SS2 Wong Kok Char Chan Teng new designHong Kong style restaurants like Wong Kok Char Chan Teng (non-halal) are rising in numbers in the last 2 years.. Wong Kok Restaurant itself have like 9 outlets in Malaysia now.

Went to the SS2 Wong Kok Char Chan Teng on Monday with a friend from Ipoh, he loves HK style restaurants, I don’t. Ok, I don’t really hate it.

The SS2 main branch has just finished re-renovation lately, the new design look more cozy than the old layout.

I order a cheese steam chicken chop rice (can’t really remember the name from the menu), taste weird but good, perhaps cheesier than Pizza Hut’s pizza..

Some side dishes, or so call snacks like dumplings and mashed potatoes..

Food tasted fair enough, bill is RM47 for 2 person, overpriced if you ask me.

I have to comment on their poor service though, most of their waiters sux, standing there day-dreaming instead of serving the customers.

Most HK rest. services are below par…some how they have the mentality that they are doing the customers a favour..serving food to us. BUT tip them and they will forever remember you as their “Sugar dad”. to HKs, $ can do anything and everything!!!. the staff are locals with HKs management stylo. I said Eat somewhere else.

teccy.. I haven’t been to too many HK restaurants, so I can’t really comment their services overall. The SS2 Wong Kok restaurant’s services are below par, that I can confirmed.

Credit to one of the Wong Kok waitress though, I’m sorry I forgot her name, she was the only one that really served the customers and diligent at work.

This is not the original Wong Kok restaurant la. These guys in SS2 and stuff are fakes. the real one is in Penang, thats where it all started! the food there is excellent and are famous for their egg tarts. The one in SS2 is a spin off and the food quality is below par compared to the one is Penang. What a scam!

Bruce.. scam is a strong word. Haven’t been to the Penang Wong Kok, so I can’t comment myself.

Could it be that it’s simply 2 different restaurants sharing the same name rather than the SS2 franchise chain taking advantage on the ‘original’ in Penang?

Coz as far as I know the SS2 Wong Kok aren’t famous for any eggtarts.

Well they just aint original thats how i feel. And using other restaurants name is not very professional. The issue i have is not really about the eggtarts, its about them using the name Wong Kok and fooling people like myself! It maybe childish of me to be posting about this but i do feel that they are actually spoiling the image of Wong Kok in penang with their bad service and not up to standard food. The floor manager acts like i owe him money when went there. Just wanted to make sure that if anyone here knows of the Wong Kok in Penang, dont get it mixed up with the one here thats all. Cheers and thank you for hearing me out.

I appreciate your info Bruce.. you made some good promotion for the ‘original’ Wong Kok, makes me want to try it out when I visit Penang next time.

    Got the address or location?

My understanding is that the original wong kok char chan teng started in penang…as mentioned by bruce….

I have been to the one is SS2 and its a pity such an establishment would jump on the bandwagon and use a name that is established by anothers hard work and efffort.

On another note, the food in SS2 does not have the quality like the original wong kok in penang… dun let the name fool u…

i live in ss2 but i will nvr walk in there again…

I doubt that the SS2 Wong Kok are taking advantage of the Penang Wong Kok.. after all Wong Kok is a very famous place in Hong Kong, a general terms I must say.

I believe what both of you claimed, that Penang Wong Kok has higher quality, the one at SS2 are not too bad, but can’t match a lot of restaurants, really.

Wong Kok Char Chan Teng’s service at 1utama is horrible bad. Yesterday i went there with my friends and we wait for our food for more than 1hour, the people who sit beside us came late than us but had ate and paid earlier than us. We had called for 2waiters to follow up for our late coming food but there was no respond. That restaurant charged us 10% service charge but their service is horrible worse than what we had expected for. We want to make complain to that restaurant but they did not want to give us the HQ office telephone number. They just want to solve this bad service problem quietly without letting the HQ know. How dare they can do like this?? It is not fair for consumer!!! We have the right to know as a consumer. They should take responsible for what they had do.

when taking food order, the staff seems like us own them money…sometimes when the food served, we can see some of the plates or cups already broken.if they are really profesional enough, why cant they just take caring about this matter.some more find hong kong actor “kok chun on” bacome their embassador.”gao siu”…

Seriously and honestly, i’m not sure about the original wong kok rest. but i can say for sure that this restaurant in SS2 is really bad and lousy. I would surely believe that the one at SS2 is a scam.
