Former Malaysian prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad has been attacked with pepper spray in Kota Baharu airport on Friday morning. [BBC]

I was totally shocked when I first read the news from YB Lim, not just because Tun M is such a figure in Malaysia, but the fact that the villain was attacking an 81-year-old man without mercy is just so unforgivable.

I am glad that Tun M didn’t suffer much from the incident, from reports he’s doing ok and attended some events later on.

Current prime minister Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi has expressed his regret and anger and ordered the police to conduct an immediate investigation and to take stern action against the culprit. [Bernama]

UPDATE - Deputy Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Musa Hassan says Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad’s assailant has been identified and that he has ordered the capture of those associated with the attack. [Sun2surf]

UPDATE August 10 - Businessman Datuk Nik Sapeia Nik Yusoff was charged in the Kota Baru magistrate’s court on Tuesday with spraying a dangerous substance towards former Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad.
