University Putra Malaysia (UPM) has been under the spotlight lately, first with the ‘racist’ textbook and later on with the bullies video [link] just 2 or 3 days ago.
According to merdekareview.com report, a group of UPM Chinese students are setting up counters, fund collecting for the projects. Then came a group of Malay boys disrupted the event with some monkey act.
It’s said that a few of the Chinese students were hurt and a camera broken, which is yet to be proven.. but viewing the video itself is disgusting enough.
I’m not going to make this a racial issue, I’m just questioning the existence of bullies in our public university and what the university authorities are going to do about it.
The troublemakers are university undergraduates and supposed to be matured enough not to involve in these kind of monkey childish act. If high school kids can be exile from school for bullying, tell me why these idiots are allowed to continue their studies in the university?
I’m also disappointed with our mainstream media for cowardly covering up the news, seems like the money making media know nothing but to please our government nowadays.
You can view the UPM violence video on YouTube..
Apparently member of parliment YB Lim Kit Siang is blogging about this UPM issue as well, you can proceed to his posting for more details. [link]
UPDATE – UPM officials decided that no punishment will be taken against any students other than some advices. [link]

its a sad situation. That’s why i wonder when our public universities’ going to improve.
July 21st, 2006 at 10:31 am
I just hope that they will stop declining at the moment..
July 21st, 2006 at 5:44 pm
They are breeding the 13 May hooligans quietly by not taking action and most importantly hiding this kind major issues from the public. Shameful!
July 21st, 2006 at 5:55 pm
what goes around, comes around, !! this type, ten FOLDS.
July 21st, 2006 at 5:56 pm
There’s a Media Blackout in progress regarding this incident at the moment. No coverage at on local papers although it has appeared on a few blogger’s site, news portals and several police reports made.
July 21st, 2006 at 7:32 pm
Dear Guys,
Action need to be taken…whoever has the above video files please send it to the authority. Send to everyone…may straight to the PM himself. Action need to be taken….. I’m a ex UPM students too…these Bastards need to be punished!!!
July 22nd, 2006 at 1:13 am
Terenceg.. I wouldn’t want things to turn into a snowball, I just don’t want to see this kind of bullies happening again, not in our public universities.
Malaysian & mob1900.. media should be blamed, but it’s always the government that’s the culprit. With the publishing license at stake, we can’t blame 100% on the media for being coward.
Point is, the media (or government) could only cover the news for the rather ‘uneducated’ group of people and win their votes in election, while the more educated group of citizens might be disappointed and leave the country in the end.
Clipass.. the video was already submitted to authorities by some sources. The last time I read about the news the police are handing back the case to the
dumbass and biasuniversity discipline board.July 22nd, 2006 at 8:32 am
-comment deleted: please be rational, thank you-
July 22nd, 2006 at 9:27 am
it is very sad that this monkeys are allowed to be in university. The media is equally to blame for not highlighting the issue. However, it will be worst if this issue is turn to racial issue. Because it is not. Just some hooligans that embarassed the whole race.
I suggest that these monkeys be expelled and punished severely because monkeys don’t belong in university.
July 22nd, 2006 at 11:18 am
Andi.. you are half right. With my experience studying in local U, it’s pretty normal that racial emotion involved in the issue, they are group of racists in local universities, but thank god it’s just a small group of them.
At the moment I would rather see the incident as pure hooliganism. If high school students can be expel for bullying, I can’t see why these university students are allow to continue staying in the uni.
July 22nd, 2006 at 4:56 pm
these bullies were probably bullies back in schools but were often excused. its very sad. The authorities only pay lip service in fighting bullying. Really it is oppression. I once read this: “Peace without equality is just tyranny.” I sincerely pray for the well-being of peace-loving and just Malaysians.
July 22nd, 2006 at 10:37 pm
This is one of the main reasons why i don’t BOTHER to study in the local Uni eventhough i am classified as a ‘MALAY’. Malaysia is just going STRAIGHT into the drain with these kind of dirts around… the melayus take this opportunity to make a GREAT disgrace of themselves…they are the PARASITES of society!!! it’s about time the EDUCATION minister and government OPEN UP THEIR eyes.
July 22nd, 2006 at 11:46 pm
In my 3+ years of studying in local university, there were verbal conflict that happened here and there.. but never to the extend of what happened in the video that’s totally unacceptable.
Anonymous 12.. I won’t make this a racial issue yet. To be fair there are lots of Malays that work hard and contribute for the country.. on the other hand not all other races are really samaritans.
Btw the mainstream media are finally reporting the UPM incident, came a bit late but better than not coming at all.
July 23rd, 2006 at 1:04 am
Very Very sad, what happen to Malaysia ? we love Malaysia, we are Malaysian, we need to co-operate from each other but most of the time we are losing the spirit of ” Malaysia Boleh”.
The Government need to do something promptly bacause in future the young generation will lead the country by various race, if they are not together how we can achieve “wawasan 2020″.
Urderstanding & love for human being will solve the issue and i think the fair distribution of the country wealth and the fair challenge of the education system must be implemented.
Each race has their own strength and capability if we can use this as our tool to fight with other country i think we will be the best and more competitive.
July 23rd, 2006 at 3:09 am
wawasan 2020 ????????????? too far to reach !!!!!!!!!
July 23rd, 2006 at 8:55 pm
the malay government will help malay monkey….
July 23rd, 2006 at 9:04 pm
Love Malaysia.. the future of our country is worrying indeed. Despite the implementation of NEP, the rich are still getting richer and the poor seem none improving much. Fairness in competition is far to be seen, what I hope now is the government intention to close the gap with all the bumis advantages can be implemented properly.
kelvin.. it’s far, but there’s hope.
genius.. it’s Malaysian government. Let’s focus on the incident and not over angered with the matter, the bullies are monkeys, but not the race.
July 23rd, 2006 at 10:46 pm
It’s really sad that such things happen. Unfortunate that it can’t be stopped or prevented. I am truly ashamed that I graduated from that university after seeing this. What’s worse is that there will be many parties who will take advantage of this situation and promote more havoc and chaos by turning it into racial issues. I’m sure of that. Let’s all hope our society will be able to overcome this. I wonder what we can do to assist our government? I believe Pak Lah do not condone this and he will need help to solve this at the root.
July 24th, 2006 at 1:53 pm
This would end up in different scenario if letting them be a leader in university. Where is UPM student leader or MTM ? Come on give us support to solve this problem in our way not their way. Are they showing their majority power ? Minority also can create big mass up if required.
July 24th, 2006 at 4:39 pm
Ex-UPMer.. school violence like this happen everywhere, not just UPM nor just in Malaysia. It’s annoying to see it happen in UPM, but as suggested, let’s not forget the good students that are produced every year that are contributing to the society.
Ya they are always peeps that’s going to exaggerate this kind of issue, just like some others that tried so hard to cover the case. Let’s hope that the numbers on both side of the wrong dids are minimal.
Assisting our government? I hope I have the answer, but at the moment I can just help in letting the bullies and extremist know that the society is watching.
Container.. I couldn’t really get what you mean. UPM student leaders are already involved btw, one of the bullies are said to be a student representative in the uni student board.
It’s not a matter of majority vs minority, and there’s no point to retaliate, as it will just stir things up without settling the original deal.
What I hope to see know is the authorities (be it the police or UPM) to handle this violence case properly, and justice serve to those hooligans.
July 24th, 2006 at 8:36 pm
only those who bullies ppl hav fault???
Anyone here know Y the fella sitting down, holding somethings?? Are they doing kind of promotion of gathering??
we already know that university cannot simply do publicity around… y other who eating there not being bullies??
those malay MTM using the super wrong way to halau ppl… super wrong way. showing out their gangsterism characteristic out…
These thing publise out… NO one will get benefit from it…
impact>>> uni name Spoil….
July 24th, 2006 at 9:30 pm
when government ask private company not to racist, take non chinese as the employee as they might be lost talent, i\’m wondering, are they doing this too?? our government still with lot of non chinese, even police almost 90% is non chinese!!!
they are thinking of they are the so called \”owner\” of this land, government will feed them, but they forgotten, we are the who paid most of the tax, that\’s why, who cares, as long as enter Uni, become bullies, i\’m still right…
one of my friend told me, those chinese have called the police from nearby police station, but NONE of them coming, and finally they have to call the central one, haha.. when the police came and they told the chinese, next time, don\’t simply call US for this small matter.. what the hell is this…
July 24th, 2006 at 10:11 pm
I hope the orange baboon’s (the monkey wearing the orange T-shirt in the clip) father, mother, brother, sister and future wife die of horrible death
July 24th, 2006 at 10:13 pm
Anyway kudos to the chinese guys/gals esp the one saying “Jangan Gaduh!” and “Hormat hormat”. If I were them, that UPM canteen would be a crime scene.
July 24th, 2006 at 10:43 pm
Is this what Universities in Malaysia is producing??
This kind Monkey??!! They are not student, they are Babarians…
July 24th, 2006 at 10:51 pm
Those who shout the loudest shall DIE !!!!!!!! HEHEHEHE!!!! FUCK YOU!!!! your mother fucker. This called Malaysia UNITY ah???? Shit You Monkey
July 24th, 2006 at 11:11 pm
All these years the goverment control the mainstream media to get their propaganda and decide what the rakyat should know and what they shouldn’t know. Using the term “sensitive” to threaten removal of publication license. With all the hype from the goverment to have more ppl with internet access, this remains our “true” space for freedom of speech, how ironic it must be that these 2 movement contradicts each others.
Yet I’m sadden that the goverment still want the rakyat to be inside the well, by all means keep them inside. Fighting and hustling to grab whole of the bigger piece of pie, and yet not knowing the pie is getting smaller each day.
July 24th, 2006 at 11:37 pm
Zidane & Enigma.. let’s keep the discussion civilised shall we? Cursing other to death is nothing much better than yelling and shouting like the bullies.
Tang.. there’s a difference in seriousness of every act. Not carrying our (photocopied) IC is against the law, so are murdering.. but the seriousness of the 2 offence are impairable. If the authorities are going to take action against the 7 victims, be it.. but make sure the bullies get what they deserve.
AE111 20V.. probably some 90% graduates from local public universities are with good moral and attitudes. Just that sometimes a rotten apple can spoil the whole basket, which is quite frustrating indeed.
Xavier.. with the advancement of multimedia nowadays, it’s not as easy for the government to cover up news, especially from the educated. I am not sure whether letting everyone jumping out of the well will be a good idea, as seen on this UPM bully case, some Malaysians can get real childish and should be keep in childcare rather than university.
July 25th, 2006 at 3:15 am
This could happened anywhere around the globe. I mean anywhere. Every hour perhaps every minute. Just different locations. A university is supposed to be a place to get ourselves well educated and civilized. And THOSE MONKEYS ARE NOT SUPPOSE TO BE QUALIFIED IN THERE !!! I know that universities in Malaysia only get those well in curriculum and co-curriculum. BUT THOSE MONKEYS NOT EVEN QUALIFIED as a tukang tuang SAMPAH. They themselve already a bunch of SAMPAH ……! Wreacking havoc for fun!
They may not have done well in curriculum but they might did very well in sports. Is it neccessary? What for if their personality may one day tarnished the name of our country? Think again.
Listen to this:
Bad in co-curriculum doesn’t mean weak individual, but WEAK MINDS SURELY mean “catasthropies”. They are “CACAT” in terms of raional thinking. I wonders why the univeristy and government eager to fund those SAMPAH? those barbaric minded monkey?
July 25th, 2006 at 9:55 am
I know i know lots of malaysian like to stay in overseas.I am wondering why this things happen in our country which a lots of people categories it as a harmony country.Discrimination issue is very serious in overseas country.I think malaysia goverment should take action about this issue before it becomes like previous indonesia. My point of view is,Those trouble maker should be send to kindergarden before entering University.I feel sad for my country.I think,I would prefer my life in London now.
July 25th, 2006 at 11:09 am
it has proven that government quota system is very successful in term of coverage area. (rural, city, zoo…)
QUOTA SYSTEM:
10% India (not seen)
20% Chinese (jangan gaduh! jangan gaduh!)
70% Monkey (don’t know how to describe monkey voice, pls refer to video)
July 25th, 2006 at 11:24 am

Sad
July 25th, 2006 at 12:37 pm
the gov allow 2/3 of “their” ppl in local U and 1/3 is our community, this is a disgrace to Tunku Abdul Rahman, who have united all races, a waste of his effort. We, chinese, must be united as a whole!
July 25th, 2006 at 12:42 pm

July 25th, 2006 at 3:23 pm
“this is an individual intention..not for the cause of racism..pls notice that okie ya all… ”
Do you aware that there are a lot of this kind so called “individual” in Malaysia. It always happen…
July 25th, 2006 at 3:26 pm
Sad, and of all the places it has to be in UPM, now that’s even sad. And the fact that the media is covering this incident, man this is worse than sad. I’m proud to be a Malaysian, regardless of what all the bumis have and I don’t , but to see the younger generation involve in this kind of act and still getting away with it, geez this country is getting more and more unbearable to live in for us non-bumis….
July 25th, 2006 at 4:27 pm
Ervin.. the migration rate of Malaysians that are highly educated and financial capable is indeed a serious issue. I’ve seen loads of friends and relatives moving overseas to seek better future for their next generation.
There might be racial factor involved in this UPM violence, but I’m more concern on what the government or UPM authorities will do to prevent similar cases from happening again.
This time it’s some 50 university hooligans, who knows what might happen next.. we don’t want to see action taken only after some real bloody incident occuring.
And please don’t feel ashamed of being a Malaysian, despite some unhappy incident we are still leaving in a nice country.. at least we are living better than those who are suffering from natural disaster and continuous war. Be grateful.
July 25th, 2006 at 10:08 pm
“It just happened that one group had more Malay students in it and the other had more Chinese,” was stated by our dear Dr. NYY in today’s Star. She must be blind (colour blind?) OR…. too long at the top to notice all this “nitty gritty” stuff.
July 25th, 2006 at 11:02 pm
i really can’t understand what kinds of uni students are they???? they thought they’re heroes when they bullying the chinese students? they thought that’s the way to show that they’re more talented than chinese? well, yes! they are! chinese will never ever bully other races like they do! honestly, i feel lucky that i was not graduate from UPM, or i will feel shame! these stupid fellows will never get improved!! they should be placed in the jungle!! they’re given the chance to improve themselves, but what they do? shame on them! shame on their families! sorry to other malays because they’ve such idiots in their race! God bless malays, they will never success as others seems there’ve such idiot. God bless malaysia, wawasan 2020 is getting more far to us seem these idiots is the biggest group malaysia.
July 26th, 2006 at 8:15 am
They look very alike to Indonesian. Oh, I forgot! They are very close relatives! Oh, Im sorry, REally SOrry! U know, they are everywhere, it only happens a bit more apparent in UPM. Jeez, Undereducated ’student’ in Higher Education Institution. Wow, that’s so lovely.
July 26th, 2006 at 10:34 am
ha..ha…ha…..wat a barbarian, let this go on lah….don’t let them alert on what they did and educate them to be civilised. Let the world see the uncivilised actions, the people who laugh not only us but the world.
July 26th, 2006 at 11:54 am
the news was reported in Chinese and English newspaper but never in Malay. What a shame!
July 26th, 2006 at 12:10 pm
I really feel ashame, memalukan melayu shj when one of my roomate show this to me… When I look at the past, there are too many kinda incident occur yet is covered up and is getting worst and worst compare to 20 years back… I hope the government threat this seriously and I would like to advise the culprit who ignite this incident…pls think twice before u talk and act something stupid and barbaric… coz’ ur selfish and ur personal stupidity will definitely bring bloodshed to the shore again….
July 26th, 2006 at 2:02 pm
I can’t beleive it really happened in UPM. We always say “Malaysia Boleh” in our mounth but, what it is really meaning about “Malaysia Boleh”??? I met a lots Malay friends, they are very friendly, we shared a lots topic eachother. But, they are not students of xxx university, even they are no education before. I think they are more smart than those studied in UPM students. I respect them more.
Those monkey, pls attention, for your parants, for the Malaysia, for the UPM, pls go home, go back your home, UPM is a study place, not your jungle. Waste your parants’ money, your time and my tax.
July 26th, 2006 at 3:49 pm
I blog about this UPM violence issue initially when I read the plea from the victims that public are not caring about their problem, and that the media are not concerning about the matter.
With the c0-operation of a few other blogs, we might have created perhaps some awareness from the public about the issue, and the mainstream media are already reporting about the UPM case.
The followup of the issue are being handled by the UPM, and I hope that the bullies will get what they deserve, and other students from any races will learn from the incident.
As my initial goal of creating awareness on the UPM violence is accomplished, allow me to close the comment options to avoid further flaring of the issue.
I understand the anger and shamefulness felt by some fellow Malaysians, but lets look into the future with bright hopes shall we?
I will make another post if there’s any critical updates from UPM about this matter. If you have anything useful to share, please don’t hesitate to contact me. [contact link]
Thanks for all your comments, and lets wish that Malaysia will still be a peaceful and wonderful nation for everyone regardless of religion and races.
Cheers, peace and all the best.
