There was once a very important person in Malaysia, Datuk Seri Najis.
Datuk Seri Najis is a very smart leader, he thinks that private sector putting criteria for potential employees for being proficient in Mandarin is discriminatory and a practice should stop.
I always thought that being proficient in multi-langual is an advantage, maybe I’m not as smart as Mr. Najis, so I can’t figure what’s wrong with recruiting people with mandarin proficiency.
Btw in Malaysia there are much more jobs that require proficiency in English, and probably BM.. and that should not be a problem because everyone are learning it right?
But how about degrees? Not everyone can have a degree.. so job criteria that requires a degree would also be discriminate right?
What about jobs that are offered to bumiputeras only.. oh so sorry, I shouldn’t question this at all.
I really don’t know what Datuk Seri Najis is thinking, his head must be full of shit brilliant ideas that normal people like me won’t understand.
Disclaimer: I am in no way relating Datuk Seri Najis to this news [link]

alicia.. what PM? Poo master is it?
Ivan.. I really don’t mind BM or English compulsory or whatever, the fittest survived and the Malaysian workforce should continuously upgrade themselves. Just that Mr Najis is moving the opposite way and that disgusted me. Btw having a famous father helps a lot for political future as well.
WTJ, Yvy.. kinda sad isn’t it?

On a bigger scale though, lots of other countries are encouraging people to learn Mandarin ‘cos China is booming. Surely it’s a plus then if you can speak Mandarin. Or any language besides Malay and English?

It’s a plus to know an extra language, whatever it is. Some jobs in Malaysia actually offer some 50% extra pay for those who understand Japanese.
For me an extra language proficiency is like an extra knowledge, and that’s nothing wrong for any company to get the best people they want.
