Pasar Tamu Gaya, Kota Kinabalu[Sabah trip, 26-Mar-2006] We went to Pasar Tamu Gaya early morning to have some walk around the Sunday market and had our breakfast. The Sunday Tamu was nothing much special than our night market or Petaling Street, KL.. just selling a bit more of Sabah traditional stuffs.

After spending some time at the Tamu we went to the port and headed Tunku Abdul Rahman Park for snorkelling and some water sports.

Our first destination was Sapi Island, we rented some basic snorkelling equipment and got into the water.

Well for first timer snorkelling at Sapi Island might be fun, decent fishes and corals. For me the place was obviously spoilt and definitely not at its best.

10 years ago when I started snorkelling, the sport was still relatively unpopular, those days the corals were beautiful, varieties of fishes and sealifes were in abundance.. but now every hot tourist spots the corals are turning into rocks, the sea bottom are no longer colorful.. that’s probably the price of tourism development.

Parasailing, Kota Kinabalu water sportWe didn’t spent too much time at Sapi Island and headed to Manukan Island, where we went on parasailing.

This was the first time I did the parasailing, quite excited at the first place. It feels good when I were up above, nice birdview and heart pumping when the boat dropped me into the water, kinda like a rollercoaster ride. Ehh it got a bit boring after a few minutes up there, anyhow still a good experience.. my first and probably my last bid of parasailing.

We originally plan to do the banana boat as well, but decided to call it off because of the price. So what else? Snorkelling again lor.

Manukan Island was a better snorkelling spot, at least more fish along the coast. I did brought along a water-proof camera and caught some pictures.. it’s dang hard to catch a good picture underwater. Will share some good ones after I developed the film.

We headed back to KK port around 5pm, and had some Italian dinner at the Waterfront. Waterfront is a great place to catch the sunset, thus a favorite spot for tourist and young locals.

I forgot the exact price.. but our buddy guide got us some discount, so it’s around RM60 of parasailing, not sure about the snorkeling as we paid as a whole package on the Sabah trip.

Sorry gladys.. I don’t have the contact anymore.

There are agents at the pier on both island, Sapi and Manukan. It’s pretty easy to find them (actually they will find you).. so if you are not going at peak seasons, you probably don’t need booking.
