A domestic cat in Germany has become the first EU mammal to die of the deadly H5N1 strain of bird flu.
The H5N1 infection in the German cat was confirmed by officials at the national laboratory, the Friedrich Loeffler Institute, but tests are continuing to determine if it is the exact strain that has been found in birds.
Experts suspect that the cat ate an infected bird and got the virus. While this is the first case a mammal died of birdflu in EU, it’s nothing new in Asia.
Well it’s not a good news at all just after recently our Malaysians has just discover bird flu near the place I stay.
World Health Organizations (WHO) has just raised its official tally of human bird flu cases worldwide to 173, including 93 deaths. Almost all human deaths from bird flu have been linked to contact with infected birds.
