Lots of people might have experience playing 3 legged walking, where 2 people tie their legs together and walk to a destination. It is a commonly used sport for team building in school events.
Just watched on tv just now, Japan actually have a popular 31 legged race held annually, and was running into their 10 years anniversary in 2005. The competition are opened to Japanese primary school students, with a team of 30 kids tying their legs together, so it’s 30 person with 31 “legs”. The teams will have to dash 50m and time recorded, the best wins.
I sat on my sofa and watched the show for more than an hour, it’s suprisingly interesting and touching to see the kids determination and spirit to compete in the race, it requires lots of teamwork and coordination, which I doubt the adults can do any better than these primary school students.
Malaysia could learn and organize some student events like this, it’s really character building and stress on a lot of good attribrutes. I always felt that Malaysia education system is rather robotic and square with too much stress on academic qualifications.
Btw, the fastest 50m 31 legged race is accepted by Guiness World of Records documentary, with the current record holders from students of Sugikami Elementary school (pic) in their 2002 semi finals in the competition with 8.94 seconds. They went on to win the throphy with an equally impressive 8.97 seconds in the 31 legged race final.
