Cheerleading is not something new, the history of cheerleading can be traced back to ancient tribes performing ritual dance for celebrations of food or winning battles. The modern cheerleading history is however originated from US in 1880s to cheer for college football (American) games.
[image source] Cheerleading is a popular activity in US and gaining rapid popularity around the globe. It’s common to see cheerleaders in US football or basketball matches performing cheers, dance and stunts during the games.
Believe it or not, in early days cheerleaders are all guys, macho macho guys lol. Ladies’ participation in cheerleading is only started after World War 1, but in a short span of time the cheerleading became a female-dominant activity.
USA began to organize cheerleading competitions in the 60s when cheerleading became a popular activity in high school and college. Professional cheerleading was introduced in NFL in the 70s.
[image source] The ‘old’ cheerleading uniforms and performances were quite conservative those days. The current trend of cheerleading was revolutionized by Dallas Cowboys in the 1972-1973 NFL season with the ‘sexy’ outfit and complicated moves.
Cheerleading is not an easy sport, it requires individual strenght, courage and more importantly team work and trust. Injuries inflicted with cheerleading activities is in the rise in US, with the tumblings and flyers move where cheerleaders are tossed into the air, accidents can cause some serious injuries.
Undeniable fact is cheerleading is getting more popular everywhere, even in Malaysia we started seeing some cheerleading performance.
Cheers!

Hi!!!
I´m a colombian girl, I think that the cheerleading is a wonderful and very funny sport, but also is very difficult.
But when you love something, you don´t care about how much difficult it could be. All those people who think that the cheerleading is a easy, stupid or ridiculous sport, have to practice it. My cheerlading team is named American Cheer in Cali Colombia.

I believe that cheerleading is a sport.Because all other extra caricular activities that are considered sports compete.Cheerleaders compete so that means that cheerleading Is a sport.I LOVE cheerleading and i would’nt know what i would do without being able to cheer, seeing as i’ve been doing it for 8 years and im in 8th grade. What a lot of people dont realize is that cheerleading require strength, dedication, coordination, and skill.you have to be able to lift girls up in the air while cheering concentrating on the words you have to yell while making sure you don’t drop the girl.Cheerleading is not a sport for the weak. Not all cheerleaders are stupid and not all cheerleaders are snobby.those are just labels that people need to stop giving to cheerleaders.Cheerleaders are as smart if not smarter than anbody else who plays a sport

I coach Cheerleading and I think it rocks, but after reading this article all I have to say is that the Dallas Cowboy Cheerleaders are not cheerleaders in my book, they are dancers. They don’t tumble and they don’t stunt and I don’t think I have ever seen them do an actual cheer. Maybe back in the day they did, but now they are just dancers called cheerleaders, its a waste.

cheer leading is lots of fun! I did it in grade school and now I’m doing it in high school. Cheer leading is a sport at practice we run 20 laps around the gym, we stretch, we lift people in the air unless your a flier but you have to have balance, and we have to stand out in the cold and cheer for our sucky football team lol
February 26th, 2010 at 9:07 pm
HEY PEEPZ! IM A CHEERLEADER! IVE BEEN TALKING MY FRIEND INTO IT!
May 31st, 2010 at 3:22 am
hey Jee I’m glad you are putting cheerleading in positive light, but it seemed you were concentrating on games. Most teams don’t even cheer at games and for the ones that do, it’s just another practice

I made the cheer team this year for Legacy High School and already I’m having a blast with everyone! People stereotype Cheerleaders as snobby and stupid, but that is definitely not true. At my high school, we had to have at least a 3.5 GPA average to be able to even be considered for tryouts. I guess this proves we’re not stupid(: also, cheer is not easy. It is very hard and takes a lot of effort and concentration. If you really take the time to get to know most cheerleaders, you will realize that we are not mean and we are what our name implies and much more. We bring the crowd up when the games aren’t going well and we support our school/show school spirit. I really wish all this stereotyping would stop. But this is a great blog(:

Hey, I’m a guy cheerleader at James Madison University. I never considered it until I arrived as a freshman this year. I used to do acrobatics so my RA suggested trying out. I wasn’t going to do it but when some gorgeous and sweet hearted co-eds begged me to hold them up in the air, I fell in love with the sport. I’m protective by nature and my nickname became the human safety net. It’s the best way ever to get big if you’re lanky. I used to be 6’7″ and 200 pounds. I’m now 217 and can’t wait to show my new body in Daytona Beach when we compete in April.
