Li Yu Chun the super girl is not superman’s girlfriend or something, she is voted by 3.52 million china voters to become the winner of China singing competition “Super Girl 2005″ (”超级女生2005″).
I was familiarized with the name Li Yu Chun (李宇春) while surfing some Chinese websites, the name “Li Yu Chun” was getting lots of exposures, matching the hottest actress and singer at the moment, that’s why I decided to dig a bit of the info.
China “Super Girl” is an American-Idol like singing contest, for girls only. With the successful model of American Idol and our Malaysian Idol, we can easily understand why the Super-Girl competition can be popular.. and something popular in China with a population of 1.3 billion can really create some buzz. Already backed by 3.52 million votes and million of fans, Li Yu Chun and a few other contestants are having a bright singing future.
I haven’t had a chance to listen to Li Yi Chun’s voice, but for people who listen to Chinese music.. be prepare, her name and voice will be everywhere pretty soon.

I read from some news that she actually won some awards in the event, too bad I missed the chance to watch it on tv.. lol she don’t seems to be a sweet type of girl, rocker fits her image pretty well I guess.

Hi Jean.. I heard about Zhou Bi Chang and the 2nd runner-up Zhou Liang Yin (spelling?).. but never heard them sing. Well they are voted among so many contestant, final 3 sure will be good

Zhou Bi Chang (周笔畅） sang some of Wang Lee-Hom (王力宏) songs in the contest so you can imagine what kind of voice she has. And the second runner up is Zhang Liang Ying (张靓颍) can sing that song “Loving you… is easy coz you’re beautiful…” (forget the title) and she can sing those extraordinarily high notes in that song (just like Mariah Carey). Li Yu Chun is still famous in China and Hong Kong only, most of other places don’t know much about her.. as said most of Li Yu-Chun’s news is in Chinese only.

As a fan of Li Yuchun, I’m very glad to see you guys’ words. In China, her fans are called Corn because YU sound like corn in Chinese. It’s really a pity that most information about her are in Chinese. Recently she paid a visit to South Korea to study dance.
In some way she is quite “handsome”, like a dream lover of women.
I love her because she is so unique and pure.

hey, im a local Australian, my friend had a copy of what he described as chinese idol, so decided to watch a few episodes. I found the competition to be quite strange in that the girl with the least singing talent came first (no disrespect) with a substantion 3.5 million votes. However i did enjoy the voice of the 3rd contestant Zhang liang ying, who in my opinion obviously had better singing talent than the rest. Could this be the result of many chinese female audiences voting for a participant that appears to be more masculine in nature??? and not following the stereotypical female image??? In this case wouldnt it better combining males and females in the competition???

Li YU Chun has not the best voice compared to zhou bi Chang and zhang yang ling, but she is herself on stage … thats why she won I think, right??

I got the chance to listen to Li Yu Chun, Zhou Bi Chang and Zhang Liang Ying singing in tv during Chinese New Year shows.. I think all 3 of them sing pretty well.
Personally I favored the voice of Zhang Liang Ying.. I think Li Yu Chun won the competition because of the strong personality.. she looks pretty cool and special.

Why is she so popular in China? I guess it reflects the confrontation between male and female in Mainland China. Most of her fans are women, and men prefer Zhang Liang Ying. Her victory is women’s victory. and voting for her is voting for our own dream of being ourselves. Li Yu Chun is not tradional kind of girl. She is short-haired, not wearing skirts, no make-ups, brave, and behaves like a gentleman with her components on the stage in this breath-taking contest.
I live in a middle-sized city in Central China. In the summer we walked on the streets, talked with acquaintance and strangers and persuade them to support her by sending SMS. This sounds crazy but it did happen in many towns and cities.

My friend introduced me to watching china supergirl contest, pay particular attention on Li Yu Chun. Finally, I watched it, 2 hours commentary video clips on Yu Chun’s performance throughout the contest. I think she doesn’t have an outstanding voice, but she has very special personalities, which make her stands out amongst the rest. I like her presentation on the stage, she knows how to attract audience attention with her skillful dancing and deep and steady voice. It’s her musculine appearances, which makes her different. I guess one of the advantage of being tall and lean, she looks really cool in pants!

The movie is based on a popular online novel (谁说青春不能错), something about young people releasing their passion and daring to chase their dream.. almost fit with YuChun’s real life story.
Chun Chun definitely looks better with the boyish look.. I can’t blame people for saying that she’s les, after all that’s the style that she attracted so many ladies fans.

I like her voice, its just not really my style, kinda like a Fantasia thing in the USA, some people like it, others don’t. I personally like the voice of Zhang Liangying most, although her high notes bug me a bit (Like after singing “Beautiful” where that one judge had her sing some parts again, it sounded like she was screaming more then singing) And I agree she tries to hard to sound like the original artists. I am trying to be able to find some performances of Zhou Bi Chang but have only came across one… and its taking forever to load.

We don’t see Zhou BiChang often because of her contract problem, but heard that she settle a new contract and thus we will hear more from her soon.

To be honest I am very attracted by the voice of zhang Lian Ying, especially the way she sang this powerful song “Loving you”. For those who know the original version of this song would agree with me that there is no difference at all, her voice is wonderful and atrractive.

cuz i thought u r from malaysia, i m right? i mean Jee…or…whatever…
i m from china Qingdao, and in london study at the moment…i do care about the supergirl contest since last year 2005, cuz chinese can actually vote for someone…
still, the voting scheme seems not to be ‘clear’ enough to convince all the nation that ‘we are voting’… rather ‘we pretend to vote, but still big brother s watching u…’…big brother…i mean the TV broadcaster Hunan TV…seems they pre-determined someone to be the champion the runner up blah blah…so thats really some kind of sh*t that spoil the show…
my opinion on those girls…whatever positions they are getting in the contest, they are good…and i do like this show…as well as the American Idol…Katherine…is it…? she s gorgeous… still still…i dont understand why Chinese girls like Li-Yun-Chun…why not someone really looks like a Girl…? no offence to Li-Yun-Chun…just a question to young voters… while i was watching the TV with my girlfriend, we were 21 and 22 last year…but dont understand what s the point to vote for a GUY in a supergirl contest…

Actually we in Malaysia still got no chance to watch the actual supergirl show, but the news about it and Li Yu Chun and others are constantly on our local Chinese newspaper.. it’s hard to ignore it.
Actually I think Chinese artist should adventure overseas a bit more, other than those who have music or movies production in Hong Kong or Taiwan, there’s not many other China artist that we know in Malaysia.

i ve got a good malaysian chinese friend in the UK called Ling Yang Ming…and he s from Ming-Du-Lu in Malaysia…he said it was a small town…and also i found Malaysian Chinese could speak many languages…Hakka…Mandarin…Cantonese…and Malay…and English…u must be one of them…
plus malaysian Chinese students are quite talented than i thought…
for example writing Chinese articles or some M-Chinese geeks in school…and plus…almost all the m-Chinese i know…they are all very nice person…not aggressive at all…is it because u r religious?

Not all winners will keep on to be famous, as more and more talents will be discover. It will take something really special for the girls to keep on being popular, they must be SPECIAL.
Never heard much of the Super Girl 2006, other than the controversial girl that show her underwear during the competition.

I still remember 1st time I saw her on tv when I went back hometown for newyear ,acttracted by her personality. she look so cool and unique. The album selling pretty well in China though, YuChun’s fans are very supportive of her.

I still think Yuchun (Chris Lee) belongs to live singer. She is able to conquer you and excite your nerve in a minute when she is performing on the stage. Hey guys! I am back again. Glad to see you are still talking about Chris. It is true that Chris is unique and many people love her just because of this. However, I feel that her state on the stage is the biggest attraction for me. It’s a sort of free and relaxing style, sexy at times. Of course, it seems that she doesn’t like to use too much skill in singing, which may be due to her likings and character. She is a person who likes to change complication into simpleness. During most of her interviews with journalists, she always uses the briefest words to convey her thoughts, aiming to be frank and simple. In this sense, her personality is very charming.

i was searching for chunchun’s news in english and saw your blog. i am a huge chunchun’s fan,and i am so surprise that there are that many people are interested in her from all the place. i think chunchun is the best singer for me, i am obseesed with her unique voice. chunchun is still the most popular singer in china, and her 1st album has really good quality. last month, she got 11 awards in 10 days. in the beginning of 2007, she went to Hong kong to hold a concert, and that is AN AMAZING show.

I attended the the Fusion concert of chun chun in Las Vegas with jackie chan and a mei and I thought she sings very well too bad it was not her solo concert maybe in the future…. I happen to spot her on the excalator with some of her assistants and I ask if I can have a picture with her( i know it was pretty awkward on her part but she was kind enough to agree so I did took 2 pictures of her… it was a good souvenir)… she got a group of her fans in front of the audience….. and after the concert she got some awards and her fans was happy to see her on the stage… the fans would had gotten more pics but because the security guards are so strict! Jee, I do have a huge amount of her pictures, but I haven’t seen her in reality yet by now, though I am living in China. However, lots of her fans who have met her face to face say that she is quite beautiful and the camera can’t present her beauty at all. For me, it doesn’t matter if she is pretty or not. I care more about her music and stage performance. I even don’t want to seek chances to meet her, for I think it is better to watch her in a long distance and it’s ok just to listen to her voice.

You really believe in the news that she is a lesbian? I read such news long long ago with a picture in which “Yuchun” and a girl hug each other very closely. And to this, Yuchun was questioned by a reporter after giving a charity performance in Taiwan on about January 20th, 2006. Her answer is “That is not me, so I have nothing to clarify.” On January 3rd, 2007 when super girls held a concert in Hong Kong, she was again questioned by a reporter, asking if she likes girls or boys, and she said “boys with not too much word, at least taller than her”.
She is too popular and hot in China: she is the image person of Coca Cola, Crest, Swatch, Amoi, HP, etc., so there must be some people or stars are jealous of her and there were plenty of bad news about her at the beginning of her music career, at which she was sad at first and then she thought writing bad news about her is a kind of job of entertainment reporters, showing understanding of them.
I think many of her fans will not leave her no matter she is a les or not. Being a les is not such a big thing after all. The truth is she is not a les and I find the truth through watching TV news and video, not by newspapers or pictures processed by photoshop.

To Jee and Kelly88 and ostralerr, it was nice for once that people share a lot of news about chunchun I can’t read nor write chinese too bad…. now i regret it but i still appreciate a lot of chun chun fans to share all in the info ( the english news) … i think people should just appreciate her music… the Las Vegas concert was a combination of all ages…. and I had spoken to David K ( It would be good to have her own concert here in Los Angeles…. maybe in the future…. I was able to see Tang weiwei the 2nd of 2006 supergirl… she is pretty as well and taken a picture with her….very nice….. the chinese americans audience is totally different from the audience in china the way they response to some of the songs…. not too cold and not too warm…. they are just there celebrate the Chiinese new year…. chun chun sang and her actions is too moderate on the stage and she knows that the main billing was jackie chan and amei…and her first overseas singing concert is an honor for her…. I am Fans of BiBi Zhou. The reason why I love her so much are that she is kind, tender, do lot of charity things and not known by others. She is famous in the China but she still find herself not enough good at music, song writing etc. Then she decide to study more knowledge of music and R&B in USA.
She just arrived USA and will start to study in the college next week for the period of 4 months. She found that study more is important than develop her music work then she choose to leave her thousands of Fans and go on study.
I am proud of My beloved BiBi Zhou and hope that she will come back with great music after 4 mths.

I think Bibi’s voice is good as well, making me feel comfortable just like silk. But her singing style is too ordinary in my eye, just not unique enough. Singers like her style are numerous in Chinese mainland, Taiwan and Hong Kong, etc. Having seen her in dozens of entertainment programs from TV, I think she is a lovely and humerous person.

Well, about her personality:

beast… it has become a trend to dress like Yuchun.
These days when I watch China mainland show, I can always spot some Yuchun-style… particular in the Supergirl 2006 show (the year after Yuchun), there are at least one Yuchun-lookalike on every episode.
I am actually fine with Yuchun’s style, she can do whatever she like… I am more irritated with all those imitators that dress like Yuchun, style like Yuchun and even talk like Yuchun.

I’m Vietnamese. Do you know Vietnam?And I’m a Li Yu Chun’fan. In my country, no many persons know her, but anyone knows her, love her very much.
I admit that, among 3 contestants: Li Yu Chun, Zhou Bi Chang, Zhang Liang Ying, Li Yu Chun has least singing talent. But, she wins 3.52 million votes and million of fans. Why? I think that, when a song comes in human’s heart this is a good song, and when a singer attracts audience attention she becomes successful singer. Li Yu Chun doesn’t have a nice voice, but she knows to drag up overzealousness in human’soul with her skillful dancing, deep and steady voice and especial performance style. That is too enough.
I like Li Yu Chun because she is so unique and pure, her performance is attractive. Moreover, she’s enterprising, daring to live according to the way she wants, daring to chase her dream. She’s les, for me, this’s more interesting. Sometimes, she looks quite feminine, but I like she look like a tomboy than.

li yu chun won bcuz of her style, not her voice. Her style is very unique and i like her person more than her songs. BiBi has a better voice, but i really admire all supergirls for their purity & honesty. it’s something you don’t see often in the media these days

I have to say: losts of people fell in love with her due to different reasons, indeed. Very interesting!
I agree with one of the friends above: just stick to Hunan TV Satellite Channel, sooner or later you’ll see her on TV. That is because that channel’s president is also the largest shareholder of her agency company. They have the exclusive right to broadcast her individual concert most times. However, at the same time, please ignore the poor audio quality of that channel due to their poor production level. For a singer who doesn’t like to show in entertainment programs and only likes to sing in live concert, participate in charitable activities, we fans are the most wretched.

There are no official Yuchun’s fans club even in China, so I think you have to form a fan club by your hand. You can call yuchun’s fans in your area together to form a fan club, and try to get in touch with fans from other parts of the world, especially fans clubs of Chinese mainland, for they can inform you of Yuchun’s latest activities in time and you will have many chances to see her in reality. I can’t help you, for I am not in a fan club either. I often go to Yuchun’s Chinese forumn to get information about her.

Most Yuchun’s fans wish she could leave that company as soon as possible, but we all have to wait another 6 years, for she has signed an 8-year contract with it.
The company’s bad deeds: sending e-mails to entertainment reporters, asking them to write negative news about Yuchun, such as les; never promoting her new songs or positive images; holding bad attitude towards people working with Yuchun, making them think Yuchun is a tough person to work with, etc.
Having observed that company for two years, I think the only aim of it is to build the brand of Super Family (it has signed contracts with Top 10 super girls or maybe super boys), having no long-term plan to develop Yuchun’s starhood. It actually has joined in the production of Super Family program in Hunan Entertainment TV Channel. At the same time, for Yuchun’s part, she has no higher demands except being a singer. She has no plan to be a super star worldwide. So it is just the case!
All that I will do is to wait!

Hi! Everybody. Here are again the latest news about Yuchun (I have already said before I would bring updated news to guys here, right?), so that overseas people could keep informed!
In July this year, Yuchun will publish her own book called “I Chris Music Map” in which there are many pictures or photos of her taken in different countries and cities, such as London, Singapore, Korea, Taiwan, etc. So, the spring for fans loving her appearance and personality will soon come.
For fans loving to listen to her music: she is recording new songs for her second album and it will be published by the end of this year.
By the way, tonight in Shanghai, she has come to see the live concert of Christina Aguilera and was witnessed by tens of her fans. She, her sister and her boss sat in VIP seat area. All through the concert she was “very calm, quiet and serious”, which is the description of her fans. I guess if it was the concert of Shakira, she would have been very excited! haha……

Chun made a commerical for Hunan Television dancing show. The dancing show will start at July 26. I don’t know if Chun Chun is going to be there? I think Chun Chun is a kind-hearted celebrity who cares about her fanz and do charity to help those who are poor. Also, I like Bibi too.
