Visited Yahoo! Malaysia, at the right corner below got a poll.. ‘Should the police ban the practice of ear squats?’
results..

Yes, it’s so demeaning. Send suspects to medical officers instead 56% 1330 votes
No, it helps the police discover concealed items quickly 44% 1058 votes
Quite suprised to see a split result, I thought people will be one sided against this barbaric method.
Police can have other methods of discovering hidden items, the last thing the Malaysian police need is to violate human rights and insulting others that could be innocent.
For those who think the practice of earsquat is good.. imagine if you are caught innocent one day by the police and the police ask you to strip and do the ear squat, what will you do?

Obviously there are many wierd people around who find ear-squats acceptable. Personally, what I’m concerned with is abuse. The police may not exercise reasonable judgement or discretion and may subject all and sundry to ear-squats for even minor offences! Is there a guideline in the police stations on ear-squats - when it is deemed necessary and how it should be carried out? Why holding onto the ears?

To confirm that the ear-squat victim is not from China, perhaps some significant reward can be put up in China for the real person to come forward. This reward should be incentive enough and also compensation to the victim if any. The person’s face, feature and testimony can be compared to the video clip to ascertain its authencity. If no one comes forward, then, the Enquiry Commission’s assertion that it is a local Malay lady should be considered true then alleged ‘Sandiwara’ can be put to rest.

I agree with what AT said, police force is a disciplinary organization, they should act according to rules and guidelines.
BJ.. I believe the claim from the commission that the victim is a Malay woman, that doesn’t make me happier or sadder.. the fact is human rights are being demolished in the case, regardless of race or nationality.

if the victim was me.. i’ll just find my way to leave m’sia asap and not come back ever .. xD

btw.. does anyone know that we have the absolute right to refuse doing the ear squat?
Sometimes people are too naive and scared of the police and take their request as order.. the truth we can refuse to cooperate in most cases.
Also it’s handy to know a couple of lawyer friends..

I watched the video and at first I thought she was a chinese.
Now, can we believe the government that she is a Malay??

I chose to believe what the government claimed.. it’s still a sad scenario regardless of the victim’s race, Chinese or Malay, whatsoever..
