I want to pay tribute to a lady that I’ve known for 14 years.

She just won a gold medal for Malaysia at the 23rd South East Asia (SEA) Games at Manila in the women’s 100m hurdles, her name is Moh Siew Wei.

Siew Wei is one of my mother favorite student, both our family know each other pretty well. Her athlete ability was already shown during her primary school and was trained to be a sprinter and hudler. She performed very well in junior events and was selected into the national team to SEA Games in 1999, where she won the bronze medal in the same event.

This year is her 4th attempt, she already won 1 silver and 2 bronze in the previous 3 games, and she did it this time, coming home with a gold medal. Congrats!

Her success was not just by pure talent, we saw how hard she worked for it. She had to sustain various injuries, undergo surgeries, withstand critism during poor performances and to do what she want despite objections from peers.

Siew Wei’s family and my mother had persuaded her about giving up when she was seriously injured a few years back, she refused. With her persistent and determination, she finally get what she deserved.

Brava! Brava!

I found this blog while searching for news on Siew Wei. Yes she’s my friend too, I knew her during the time we went for track meets together. She has always been to me one of exceptional talent and grace, and best of all she’s a beautiful person inside out. So her well-deserved win is timely and I wish her all the very best. Thanks for paying tribute to her, Jee.
