Well our Malaysian police force has been on the headline this few weeks for various encounters, too bad none of it was good news.. that sparkled a few thoughts that I have since some time ago.
For university graduates, policeman is one of the lower paid job, lots of graduates will not consider at all of joining our police force. Thus, our police force are not the brightest group in our society (at least academic wise), with an exception of just a very few.
Will it help if the government raise the salary? My personal opinion is yes. I was once seriously considering of joining the police force, I felt that it should be a pride and honour to service and protect our citizens, but in the end gave up my mind for multiple reasons, money was one of it.
Corruption.. even 3 years old in Malaysia will know the terms ‘kopi duit’ aka bribery for our police force. I am guilty as one of those who don’t mind paying bribes as long as they are doing their job, in thinking that it will support their low pay. (mind that I am a very law-obedient person and only caught once for speed driving lol)
As I mentioned I once want to be a policeman.. one the biggest obstacle was how not to take bribes. If I want to be a policeman I will not want to be corrupted, but if all the peers and your boss are doing it, how am I supposed to stay away from it? Headache..
Police forces for Malays only?
When is the last time we saw a non-Malay holding an important position in our police force? Yes I understand that our police force consist of mostly Malays.. but the situation that only Malays are seen holding all the major positions are definitely not encouraging.
We need to see multi-racial in our police forces, something seriously need to be done.
Awareness.. our news media always move faster than our policemen. If there is any potent issues, our news are the one who discovered it and only the policemen followed. Well this statement might not be 100% true, but that is what I see.
Size of the belly.. did anyone notice that some of our policeman are having a nice and huge belly? Ya ya I understand that men’s hormon changes at 25 and it’s quite a nature for men to gain size with their belly.. but come on policemen should have a better image than that.
Italian police ride a huge superbike and their uniform was design by Armani.. they are damn cooool. (not that it helps, heard that their corruption is worse than Malaysia)
England have the prettiest policewomen in the world… just my 2 cents.
