According to the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission’s (MCMC) Household Use of the Internet Survey 2005 (HUIS 2005), a little over half of the survey’s 5,000-odd respondents said they did not see the need to upgrade to broadband connections, and about four-fifths of the respondents said they did not have any intention to upgrade.

Nothing new, among my peers most of them use internet to check emails only, which they can easily done during office hour or hanging out once in a while in cyber cafe.. they don’t see the need to use broadband nor to have a basic internet connection. In fact since that mobile phone is so common nowadays some houses don’t even have a phone connection at home.

Sad though, Malaysians are lagging so behind on the world development in various fields, yet most of us never strive to improve our knowledge. Among my friends I believe 80% of them never try to gain any new knowledge after graduation, other than what they need to know about their work.

Our dear government again seems to be missing the focus.. why trying to encourage the usage of broadband when there is not much to offer? People will not use broadband unless they feel that they can get back what they invested.. we need to encourage our people to continuous learning and internet is one of the best and cheapest resources available.
